The Second Doctors’ Plot
July 3rd, 2007It would seem that with the planting of two explosive German cars in London and the attack of the Cherokhee on Glasgow airport, Britain has got it own ‘Doctors’ Plot’. It is turning out that the suspects are all Iraqi, Jordanian, Indian and Pakistani doctors working in state hospitals, which figures because only doctors could contemplate blowing up expensive Mercedes Benz and an SUV.
For those not wired up to modern history, I should explain that Stalin announced a ‘Doctors Plot’ in the Soviet Union in January 1953. An unusual number of senior Communists had been dying from causes other than poisoning by him and Stalin accused the doctors. He was right in that their patients were old, their Kremlin equipment was outdated, their masters were insane and they were frightened, messed up and then covered up, like doctors everywhere. So Stalin worked up yet another in a long line of purgesHe had an ulterior motive, as always. Many of the senior Soviet doctors were Jews and Stalin was swinging into an anti Semitic mode. Only eight years after the end of the Holocaust, he might have been considering beginning one of his own. Fortunately, he died in April that year. It was admitted that the plot was a fabrication and the planned executions and deportations were cancelled. The British plot has marked differences. The suspects will all be Muslims and ferociously so whereas prominent Soviet Jews would have been deep in the closet if not denial over Zionism. There will be no fabricated evidence and no purges because I am still delighted to say that the British do not generally countenance that sort of behaviour. It also looks as though there was a real plot.I cannot run with the theory of a conspiracy by the Government to make Gordon Brown look good and tough in his first week. My dearest sister in the North of England was not so reluctant on the telephone this morning. Hemmed in her home by days upon days of torrential rainstorms and with South Yorkshire under water in the first week of July, she is tending to disbelieve anything she sees or hears at the moment.‘If it had still been Tony Blair in power and with his associations with Bush, I’d have been very suspiscious.†she told me in a flash of analysis the New Statesman would die for. Mind you, Brown himself comes from the Scottish perimeter of Britain as Stalin came from Georgia. Both were avid readers, moody, sentimentalists, from a religious background and short tempered,  I am told. Stick a Joe style moustache on a picture of Gordon, stare a bit and think about it.
