if Your Sister’s A Beast It Helps
May 17th, 2007Classifying a sex fantasy survey in a student magazine as indecent and fining a man for posting a dirty hyperlink on a web discussion forum has whipped a rare and righteous rage amongst libertarians in Hong Kong. As an act of protest, one of them has made a sickly marriage of the two issues in a post on the Hong Kong blog, ‘EastSouthWestNorth’.
simply type in the keyword ‘bestiality’. There are 29,400 he says. He has saved one whole screen  of them and put that up on the site with a hyperlink. Prosecute me as well he declares and, if you do that, prosecute Google in Hong Kong too. Dare you!
Of course I hit the hyper link and dear, oh dear, he isn’t bluffing. There is an enormous selection of material on a theme of Cousin  Clara being taken for a ride down in the kennels although I looked at it from a few feet the screen out of the corner of one eye with the ‘thumbnails’ staying that way. Lam wants other ‘netiziens’ and bloggers to act similarly in solidarity and pool funds for lawyers to fight. The trouble with liberty is that you sometimes have to stand by the foolish and the stupid in its defence.
Undergraduates running a survey in a student magazine on which close relative and animal (if distinct) you have had a fantasy about shagging come well into that category.
Of course it is in nerdish bad taste. You can almost see the compilers repeatedly pushing ill-fitting specs back onto their nose bridges. Of course it is valueless to the sexual health of society. A survey which provoked younger people into having much more straightforward sex more naturally and with fewer hang ups would have served this society a lot better. You do wonder whether someone on the campus at some early point might not have had a quiet word.Still, if the establishment in all its glory jerks its knee right up its own nose in response and there is talk of prison then stand next to these young idiots one must.
I am sorry Oiwan Lam but solidarity does not stretch to hyperlinks to Bo Peep expressing unusual joy at finding her sheep. Â
